R&D Engineer
Full-time position
Location: Lexington, MA (30 mins from Boston)
Posting Date: October 26, 2012
The Opportunity
1366 Technologies is a well-funded, highly regarded startup venture that has already
gained the confidence of the US Department of Energy, some of the largest VC firms, and many
of the most successful players in the solar industry. Our focus is to develop new silicon solar cell
manufacturing technologies to enable solar power at the cost of coal.
We have recently signed a significant collaboration agreement with a major Japanese
Silicon supplier, and seek engineers fluent in both English and Japanese to solve engineering
problems as a part of cross-functional teams, working both in Boston and abroad. The successful
candidate will be an excellent problem solver, comfortable working on R&D teams speaking in
either language. The candidate will be directly involved in the entire process of improving
silicon solar cell manufacturing, from concept to delivery. Working in our fast-paced
environment, you’ll get to wear many hats and develop in ways you never thought possible.
The Requirement
Graduating Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD students or recent graduates with a degree in
EE, MechE, Materials Science, Applied Physics, or ChemE are preferred. The successful
candidate will be an independent thinker with a proven ability to innovate and excel in a team
environment. Responsibilities to include setting up and running experiments, collecting and
analyzing data, as well as some amount of wafer and cell processing. Experience in mechanical,
electrical or electronic assembly, machining, and/or wet chemistry preferred. Demonstrated
hands-on ability necessary; e.g. internships, lab courses, co-ops, club activities. You should be
able to communicate clearly, make decisions, focus on details without losing sight of the big
picture, and work as a passionate part of a team. Fluency in both Japanese and English are a
requirement, as is a willingness to travel to Asia. Requirements for education and experience are
flexible; an outstanding engineer at any level could be a good fit.
